Project

The Learning Hubs are a national project funded by the Ministry of Research, Science & Technology and managed by the Wilf Malcolm Institute at the University of Waikato.

The Science Learning Hub promotes student interest and engagement in science by providing contemporary, contextualised resources for school teachers of students in Years 5–10. It demonstrates the relevance of scientific research to our everyday lives. The Science Learning Hub was launched in 2007.

The New Zealand Biotechnology Learning Hub provides research-informed teaching resources for primary and secondary schools (Years 3-13). The Biotechnology Learning Hub was launched in 2005.

The Science Learning Hub and the Biotechnology Learning Hub showcase science and biotechnology using multimedia. The websites provides a link between science research organisations and the biotechnology sector and teachers of science and technology.

The University of Waikato collaborates with a variety of other organisations on this project including:

CWA New Media
Royal Society of New Zealand
Faculty of Education, University of Auckland
College of Education, University of Canterbury
Team solutions, University of Auckland
UC Education Plus, The University of Canterbury
Education Support Services, University of Otago
Accent Learning School Support, Victoria University of Wellington
School Support Services, University of Waikato

The resources are also developed in collaboration with the science and biotechnology communities. This includes researchers in Crown Research Institutes, the tertiary sector, and other research associations and organisations in New Zealand who are featured on the Biotechnology and Science learning Hubs. The University of Waikato is grateful to them for their support.
